The term “Femtech,” coined by Clue co-founder and CEO Ida Tin in 2016, describes any product, software, diagnostic, or technology that addresses women’s health and wellness. Femtech clinical research is essential as there are many areas of women’s health that need attention, from prevalent but under-diagnosed and -treated conditions like endometriosis to preventable deaths, such as those related to pregnancy and childbirth.
Femtech research will hopefully lead to innovative solutions to these issues and more, especially since the area boomed in recent years and is only expected to grow.4 But Femtech will only become a mainstay in the research industry if it can overcome certain challenges, namely funding, diversity, and focus.
